University of California, Irvine chose Digidesign's Venue and RSPE Audio Solutions for the Drama department theatre. Recently, University of California Irvine's Department of Drama was due for some big changes in their theatre. The daunting task of reading into the future, and deciding which direction to take, fell in the hands of Mike Hooker, Professor of Sound Design. After much consideration, and consultation with RSPE's Dave Szpak, Mike's hands down choice was to go with a 96 input 24 output Digidesign Venue Live Sound Environment from RSPE Audio Solutions. Not long after receiving their new console, they put it to the ultimate test. Using 22 wireless microphones, 4 footmics, a 15 piece orchestra, 22 loudspeakers, and 52 inputs, the Venue D-Show absolutely shined in their recent musical production of "Sunday In The Park With George". According to Mike: "Every scene had a different combination of VCAs and the show was essentially mixed on the VCAs - fully automating VCA assigns, channel mutes, and EQ changes as characters changed wigs and hats. As you can see, the productions we are using the Venue on rival any touring musical and even many Broadway systems." Eric Thompson mixing with the Venue at UC Irvine. "With its intuitive interface and the option to use Pro Tools plug-ins, the Venue is an indispensable tool for any live production." Eric Thompson Live Sound Engineer |
