The AV Power Center 5000, or AV-5000, is our more most advanced full chassis AC power conditioner for the home theater and two-channel markets. The AV-5000 is a 5 zone 10 outlet device that cleans, protects and controls the power delivery to your gear.
The AV Power Centers are network enabled and allow you to setup and control your power center from any web browser over your local network connection.
AC cleaning and protection
The AV-5000 has 10 individually switched PowerPort outlets, grouped into 5 isolated AC power zones. Each zone has both common mode as well as differential mode AC cleaning that combined lowers noise by an amazing 80dB. For the safety of connected equipment, the AV-5000 features 7344 Joules of spike protection as well as fully automated over/under voltage control for surges.
The Audio Video Power Center line of AC power conditioners provides world class power cleaning and safety, with a remarkable degree of control and simplicity of installation unmatched by any product anywhere in the world.
Most owners of home theater and well done high-end music systems protect their investments by running everything through a power conditioner. Why not make sure that power conditioner does more than just clean and protect? After all, your investment is one worth protecting.
Front panel features
The front panel of the new AV-5000 has a number of innovative features and functions not found on any other power product. Via the touchscreen interface you have complete control over the power state of each outlet and the manner in which the outlets reacts to on or off device states.
Web Based Configuration and Control
The AV Power Centers feature an ethernet jack, which when connected to your home network will provide you with a local web interface to your AV Power Center. The web interface provides unparalled configuration and control options from any web browser connected to your home network.
From the web interface you may configure the names of connected equipment and the switch modes for each switchable outlet bank.
THD
No one has ever dared place a true THD meter on an AC power product, and for good reason; they cannot do anything about the problem. Our power lines are polluted with 3d, 5th, 7th, 9th and higher harmonics that reach into the many kilohertz region as a result of AC sine wave distortion, common in everyone’s home.
While only a Power Plant can reduce the actual primary distortions, the AV Power Centers can remove some of the upper levels of harmonics from the line as well. We added the harmonic distortion analyzer on the AV Power Centers so users can feel in control of their AC power. Watching the THD levels change as a function of time of day and load is both informative and instructive to those of us who are more comfortable knowing what problems we face.
Voltage meter
The AV Power Center's front panel also allows you to measure AC line voltage in real time.
This feature is valuable to monitor what the s tatus of your line is and, as with the THD measurement feature, as a means of gaining control and insight into your home’s power quality.
CATV, telephone, internet
For those owners of complete AV systems that have connected video, telephone and internet , the rear panel supports two sets of antenna, cable TV, satellite or anything using a CATV connector, a phone line and and internet connection. Anything plugged into these bi-driectional connectors will be protected from high voltage spikes that can come through these outside world connections.
Rack ears included
Many of our customers have asked for an easy and affordable rack mount solution. The AV Power Centers are two rack units high (3.5 inch) and comes with rack ears you can choose to add or keep off the front.
3 IsoZones
IsoZones are one of the technologies we’re including with the new AV-Power Centers. An IsoZone is a separate differential mode filter, fed by a common mode filter.
Each of the 5 IsoZones on the rear of the AV-5000 separates equipment noise. All electronic equipment generates AC line noise, some more than others. When you plug a digital device into the same receptacle as an analog device, the noise of one can interfere and contaminate the performance of the other. To solve this problem, you need effective isolation between equipment.
The challenge is to build a filter that is effective at isolat ing noise while at the same time remain non-intrusive. It's not difficult to build a filter that has remarkable performance in terms of noise reduction. It is extremely difficult to build such a filter without using a lot of wire and components that restrict the power delivery of the filter. The IsoZones use very short pieces of heavy gauge wire, wrapped around small, high permeability, magnetics to achieve both of these design objectives.
To further enhance their performance, each IsoZone is fed from a common mode filter. Together, the two filters form an isolated cleaning network that is both non-intrusive and an excellent performer.
Power sequencer
The AV Power Centers have the capability to drive an entire syste m and it is therefore essential that connected equipment be turned on in the proper order. Preamps, surround processors and sources need to be turned on first, while power amplifiers, integrateds and receivers should be turned on last.
In some cases, like that of a Tivo, hard drive music based systems or control setups, it is important to never lose power. The AV Power Centers allow you to select any of the available power zones and choose always on, switched, delayed or program delayed. With these choices, you can setup your system to automatically leave power on, turn it on or off via the front panel power button (or a programmable remote), and delay the turn on sequence until the source equipment has been activated.
Auto reboot capabilities
How many times has your home's modem or router locked up and denied you Internet access? Probably plenty and to fix the problem, you need to pull the power connector out of the modem and reboot the device. With an AV Power Center on the job this tedious routine is a thing of the past.
AV Power Centers allow any zone to be set as an auto reboot zone. Once set, the Power Center keeps a watchful eye on the Internet connection and should it be disconnected, the device will automatically reboot your modem, router or any device plugged into that zone. In most cases, homes using AV Power Centers will never have to experience Internet down time again.
Input naming and customization
With 10 independantly controlled outlets available on the AV-5000 it is important to know which piece of equipment is being powered by which outlet. Via the front panel you may select from 30 device names, or input your own name via the internal web page.
IR control of every piece of equipment
In some events it will be necessary to directly control the attached equipment. For example, if there is a power outage and the PowerPack UPS takes over delivering power to the system, it may be necessary to start shutdown procedures on some equipment. Projectors, for instance, should have their lamps turned off while keeping their cooling fans running long enough not to damage the projector bulb. The commands to turn off the projector bulb, turn on or off a piece of equipment while power continues to remain on are sent through infrared (IR) output jack on the rear of the unit. When combined with and IR distribution systems the commands occur in the same manner as they would if you were standing there using the hand held remote for the same device.
The AV Power Centers can be assigned up to 15 separate IR commands for any zone and these IR broadcasts can be triggered by any number of assignable events. This helps the AV Power Center to maintain complete control over not only the AC power to your system, but by directly controlling that same equipment.
Intelligent UPS control
An important part of the AV Power Center system is the optional PowerPack UPS. The PowerPack is a 1500va pure sine wave battery backup generator that will power a large part of most systems if there is an outage. The AV Power Centers communicate directly with the PowerPack UPS to make decisions based on battery usage as well as the importance of a piece of equipment in the system.
For example, it is probably critical to maintain outside communication through a modem or router in the event of a power outage; but not as important for a subwoofer to remain powered. With the AV Power Centers you can assign any zone an importance level that will permit that zone to shut down if the battery of the UPS falls below a certain level, thus protecting the system for hours at a time in the event of a power outage.
Control System Integration
The AV Power Centers offer full control via RS-232 and IR. Any feature which can be controlled from the front panel or the devices web pages can be controlled via a home automation system. While you may not use such a system at this time, the AV Power Centers are capable of this in order to mesh with changing technology and changes in your system.
